but all would be better!!!
Can you state facts about the poppy (flower)?
It is the state flower of California.
Reply:It is the mother plant and the source of all opiates.
It's latin name is Papeversomniferum
(if anyone was wondering what my tag name meant now you know...)
It is an annual
The colors come in all varieties the most beautiful and recognizable being the papever orientalis which is the vibrant red orange color associated with poppies.
It was metaphorically used in the Wizard of OZ as the cause of the characters need to sleep... Sleep being the main effect of opiates. One canno't however extract opiates from any other part of the plant but the pod or unopened bud.
The seeds are used for cooking and seasoning and as an ingredient in baking.
If you eat enough of the seeds, it is true that you can show positive for opiates on a drug screening if it is sensitive enough and specifically looking for them in your blood stream.
It has a male and female part... Female is called the Carpel and the male is called the stamen.
It has corolla that surround the reproductive parts and sepal that indicate furtilization readiness and harvest when they fall off.
What else do you want to know?
The poppy has one large carpel and a stigma from a cross section of the ovary you can see the ovules that contain the opiates.
Check out the link below... It is rather interesting!
