i have a dozen roses i want to dry in the perfect state they are in.
What is the best way to dry a bouqet of flowers?
there are many techniques, but the one I use most it hanging them upside down in a dark closet for about a week or so. Make sure the blooms are still pretty tight and make sure no moisture gets to them while they are drying....
Reply:check out this link for two easy ways to do this.
Reply:Give the 10 to KIM. That is by far the most effective, least messy and labor intensive way. Gravity, and a Dry closet, out of the way of being disturbed is what I've done...Even attaching the stems to coat hangers.
Steven Wolf
Reply:completely cover them w/fuller's(sp?) earth.
Reply:I believe it might be in silica powder this removes the moisture not positive though
Reply:hang the roses upside down and rub lemon juice over cut stems daily
Reply:Wrap a rubberband around the stems and hang them upside down in a dark, dry place.

Odd spiritual question: Can you close your eyes and picture a flower,?
What comes to mind? What color? Does this in anyway reflect your mood or spiritual state of mind today? Silly perhaps but it is interesting. I pictured a beautiful Peace Rose, pink and yellow.

Reply:As a plant ecologist, I have a different view of flowers. I can picture hundreds of kinds. When I do, I'm thinking about how the plant uses the flower in its native ecosystem for reproduction and how particular features of the flower reveal the plant's taxonomic history (phylogeny). Roses are weird because they have been artificially selected to have so many petals (wild roses only have 5 petals), so they're kind of "freakish" to me.
*edit*
Am I being thumbed down for not thinking "spiritually enough", or because I said roses are freakish? I study plants because I think they're amazing. I just think big, fluffy roses are kind of odd in the same way I think poodles are. Oh well...

How would you characterize this rhetoric in this passage?
Such was the young clergyman's condition, and so
imminent the prospect that his dawning light would be
extinguished, all untimely, when Roger Chillingworth
made his advent to the town. His first entry on the
scene, few people could tell whence, dropping down,
as it were, out of the sky, or starting from the nether
earth, had an aspect of mystery, which was easily
heightened to the miraculous. He was now known to
be a man of skill; it was observed that he gathered
herbs, and the blossoms of wild-flowers, and dug up
roots and plucked off twigs from the forest-trees, like
one acquainted with hidden virtues in what was value-less
to common eyes. He was heard to speak of Sir
Kenelm Digby, and other famous men, -- whose scien-
tific attainments were esteemed hardly less than super-
natural, -- as having been his correspondents or asso-
ciates. Why, with such rank in the learned world, had
he come hither? What could he, whose sphere was in
great cities, be seeking in the wilderness? In answer
to this query, a rumor gained ground, -- and, however
absurd, was entertained by some very sensible people,
-- that Heaven had wrought an absolute miracle, by
transporting an eminent Doctor of Physic, from a Ger-
man university, bodily through the air, and setting him
down at the door of Mr. Dimmesdale's study! Individuals
of wiser faith, indeed, who knew that Heaven pro-
motes its purposes without aiming at the stage-effect of
what is called miraculous interposition, were inclined to
see a providential hand in Roger Chillingworth's so opportune arrival.
This idea was countenanced by the strong interest
which the physician ever manifested in the young
clergyman; he attached himself to him as a parishioner,
and sought to win a friendly regard and confidence
from his naturally reserved sensibility. He
expressed great alarm at his pastor's state of health, but
was anxious to attempt the cure, and, if early
undertaken, seemed not despondent of a favorable result.
The elders, the deacons, the motherly dames, and the
young and fair maidens, of Mr. Dimmesdale's flock,
were alike importunate that he should make trial of the
physician's frankly offered skill. Mr. Dimmesdale gently
repelled their entreaties.
How would you characterize this rhetoric in this passage?
elevated, formal, detached
Reply:I'd characterize it as too long to waste time on.
Reply:It reads like something back in the time of the Bronte sisters, when you never used one adjective if three would do.
In style, the rhetoric is pedantic. And boring.

What is the meaning of sticking a toilet in your front yard?
A few people around my area "Iowa in United States" have been placing toilets in their front yard. Some grow flowers in them. This all started before 9/11. I have never really understood or heard the meaning of it.
What is the meaning of sticking a toilet in your front yard?
It doesn't mean anything. People have been using old toilets and sinks for garden planters for years.
I think its unsightly, but to each his own.
Reply:From what I understand there is no meaning. It's just a "redneck" thing. We get them here in Oregon too. My favorite was the person who had a bathtub, toilet, and sink in their yard growing flowers. It was lovely.
Reply:i was once read in a book that people did this during the 1950's to show that their city taxes were way too high. They wanted the government to know that the high taxes were making them poorer and poorer. To show their poverty, people put old furnitures and toilets and raggity clothing on their front lawn. They planted flowers in toilets to show that they could not afford real flower pots. It may be the same reason now.

Flowering bushes in Arizona?
I just got back from a trip to Phoenix and saw a beautiful small shrub/bush that had about 4-5 different solid colors of flowers on one bush. I know it isn't Lantana. It seems more like a shrub rather than a flower. The flowers look similar to a rose (but not) and it looks like it would be a perennial...does anyone know what it is and will it grow in Washington State?
I know I already asked this, I am hoping more details will help!
Flowering bushes in Arizona?
Christy
What color flowers? You say that on ONE bush -- there were several flowers -- each a DIFFERENT color? Not possible.
Chances are that since this plant seems to be doing well in Phoenix where there is almost zero snow and if so, never ever lasts more than an hour or so vs. Washington with sub-freezing temps for days on end; this plant will not survive in Washington.

Does one have to be a Licensed Florists to sell arrangements in Florida?
I know that there are people selling flowers/orchids from back of vans and trucks on the side of the road. However, if I was to sell and deliver arrangements on my own do I have to be a licensed florists or is there a state law on this? I have looked and can't find any info. Thanks

Her heart is hue to hold
Her early leafs a flower

Hello! Pennsylvania State Project!?
My daughter who is in the fourth grade has a project due soon. She has to make (8) eight items that reference the state of Pennsylvania. I have about four ideas i.e. chocolate covered strawberries (Hersey Chocolate), liberty bell made out of a flower pot, the Consitution written on old paper, and finally a T-Shirt that has something like “Pennsylvania Independence State”.
Any more ideas would be so appreciated! Thank you!
Hello! Pennsylvania State Project!?
How about a bottle of Heinz ketchup? Research famous Pennsylvanians and do something with that, off the top of my head, Louisa May Alcott is from PA, so what about taking in a copy of her book "Little Women"? Another great person is Andy Warhol who really impacted the world of art. Perhaps you could find a reprint of one of his famous works, or have your daughter make her own interpretation of it. Betsy Ross is also from PA, so perhaps your daughter could make her own American Flag (I'm thinking out of felt would be the easiest). Taking in the state flag (or a picture of) is always a thought. Something unique is to bring in the state flower (Mountain Laurel), depending on where you are this may pose a problem, however, you'd be surprised what most florists can ship in if you have an adequate time frame (or have her draw her own!). The movie "Angels in the Outfield" was based and filmed in Pittsburgh, so perhaps you could take in the DVD or even show a short clip. (Other movies were filmed there too, but I thought that movie might be the most age appropriate). You could also do a collage of sports pictures from the teams in Pennsylvania- Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, 76-ers. How about a recipe that originated in Pennsylvania?
Shoofly Pie from Pennsylvania Dutch comes to mind, but you can probably find more with some research. Well, I think I'm out of ideas for now, hopefully this helps!
Help! Our Dog Wont Quit Tearing up the Yard!?
We adopted a 5 month old jack russell terrior/mix a month ago. He's really smart and was house broken within a day or two. He has slept through the night in a crate since day one. I understand that he is teething so he wants to chew on everything. Including the wood trim on the house, the plants in the yard, furniture in the house and on and on. Along with chewing on everything he has completely destroyed our yard. Runs through the beds, gets muddy and then goes into this hyper state of flying around the yard at mach one. Tearing through the flower beds ripping it up. Then he rests in the beds. Lays all over the plants, chews on them.
Help! How can I keep him out of the flower beds? Any suggestions? We've tried several pet shop remedies that do not work.
Help! Our Dog Wont Quit Tearing up the Yard!?
Your pup is BORED and or LONELY. Bored and lonesome dogs will become VERY DESTRUCTIVE. He need lots of human attention, formal dog school training and something to do with his energy.
Find a dog school with classes for terriers. There's a trainer here in the Seattle area who specializes in terriers.
Try agility course training. Energetic terriers really enjoy the agility stuff.
He needs human attention and training NOW!
Reply:Invisble fence system. Ebay has some for a good price.
Reply:perhaps spraying ammonia around the perimeter of the bed will help to keep him out. you may also want to make a play yard especially for him. you can dig out a small area and put sand in the place of the dirt. bury a few chew bones and allow him to dig them up. soon he will get the idea that this is his play yard.
i would suggest you teach him to fetch and play this game for an extended period. use a tennis ball and/or a frisbee. in others words...give him lots of exercise and get him really tired!
hope this helps
Reply:Forget chemicals. A dog with anxiety like that needs training.
AP channel has a very good show "It's me or the dog," that teaches you to train dogs with problem behaviors. This fantastic woman uses a clicker, and treats and within days, has these beasts under control!

Reply:I have a jack russell too. Listen, more jr are given to rescue people than other dogs because they are a HANDFUL!
JR will look for underground gophers, moles, squirrels, mice, anything that moves.
Everyone I know has had to have them dog trained. They will come to your house and do the job in a short period of time, it is well worth it. JR are the best dogs ever when they are trained.
Good luck.
Reply:the chewing on things is simple get him a nile bone. they cant be destroyed.
for the flower bed u can show him its bad to tear them up, put fences around them he cant get over or take him out on a leash until he`s over the habbit.
even try giving him more attention.
trust me i have 6 dogs that used to do this.

Are there any areas in California where you feel the seasons?
I'm from Los Angeles, I'm 17, and I am looking for colleges for Fall of 2008. I'm a bit scared of going out of state(I am looking at Oregon/Washington also) so I would rather stay in California. BUT I want somewhere where you feel the seasons change! I love nature and want to see leaves change, winter's coldness(maybe snow), spring where flowers bloom, etc!! We don't get it here where I live. Is there anywhere in California with this? Any particular great colleges in those areas? Thanks!
Are there any areas in California where you feel the seasons?
probably up north . . . though CA is a big state and it might even be closer to LA to go to school in Utah or maybe even Colorado. in CA, try Santa Cruz or San Fran area.

Where is the home of growing decorative flowers in USA?
Dear Readers,
Hi.
About biotechnology, we can say that california is number one in America and whole world.
I intend to learn how to grow decorative flowers(I don't know what this major in called in English ). I am thinking about Neatherlands and Germany because universities for training students are number one in Europe.
I want to know about America.
Which state is number one?
Which university or community college is good in this state?
Thank you,
Where is the home of growing decorative flowers in USA?
Maybe you could talk to your career's advisor, and they can help you with this.
UC Davis (CA) used to be the best, but that was several years ago.
I wish I had more to offer you.
Good luck !
Reply:I think you might be looking for Landscape Architecture? I don't know what the leading schools for this are in the US, but having the name of the major may help you find schools.
Some state schools will have this major within their schools of agriculture.

True or False, Photosynthesis is used by flowering plants to make energy by converting the sun's energy?
I read this question in a science book, and it stated that the answer is false. Don't flowering plants use photosynthesis?
True or False, Photosynthesis is used by flowering plants to make energy by converting the sun's energy?
Overall the statement is true however the reason it could be false is because of the term "make energy" which has been used, according to the law of conservation of energy, energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be changed in form, so in relation to the question, the plant doesnt make energy it absorbs light and this energy is captured and transferred to a molecule of glucose which is the main storer of energy, this can be broken down to release energy
Reply:The answer is true.
Photosynthesis - a set of chemical reactions only a plant containing the pigment chlorophyll can perform. The plant takes energy from the sun that comes in contact with leaves in the form of light, combines it with carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil to make a sugar called glucose. They use this as their food source and are the only living creatures on Earth that have this ability. Every other life form depends on plants for food supply.
generally, is the synthesis of sugar from light, carbon dioxide and water, with oxygen as a waste product. It is arguably the most important biochemical pathway known; nearly all life depends on it. It is an extremely complex process, comprised of many coordinated biochemical reactions. It occurs in higher plants, algae, some bacteria, and some protists, organisms collectively referred to as photoautotrophs.
Reply:I think its true
Reply:All plants use photosynthesis to some degree or another, even carnivorous plants like the venus fly trap. That's one of the defining features of plants.
Reply:Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, some bacteria, and some protistans use the energy from sunlight to produce sugar, which cellular respiration converts into ATP, the "fuel" used by all living things. The conversion of unusable sunlight energy into usable chemical energy, is associated with the actions of the green pigment chlorophyll.
The answer is correct because they don't make energy they make ATP or a form of sugar.

Flower girl dilema? Never thought an 11yr old could confuse me so much?
OK so I am getting married in december and thought i had my bridal party sorted. I was going to have 2 bridesmaids (cousin and sister) and flower girl I am having my 6 year old 2nd cousin. When I was choosing the flower girl I was trying to chose between 2...the 6yr old and a 11yr old. I chose the 6yr old because she hasnt been a flower girl before and the 11yr old has with her parents. But now her parents are divorcing, and its a really hard and sensitive time for her, especially at 11 years old.
Anyway all the family gathered for easter, except me as Im in a different state. Apparantly they were talking about the wedding and the 11yr old asks my parents and sister if she could be a flower girl. My parents said to her she should ring me and ask, but they thought it would be a lovely idea. So she rings me and is sounds so scared and upset on the phone, and asked me real timidly if its possible if she could be in the bridal party.
Flower girl dilema? Never thought an 11yr old could confuse me so much?
Have her wear a matching dress or dress in colors that compliment the wedding party, and she can be the guestbook attendant. Buy a special corsage for her to wear and get her hair done in an elegant style, as well as a manicure, and include her on the other activities of the wedding (bridal shower, rehearsal dinner). Being a guestbook attendant is a VERY important job in your wedding and not "babyish" like a flowergirl would be for a young lady of her age and style. This is NOT something just anybody could do...Catch my drift?
Reply:That's SO sweet of you to think of your little cousins. AND especially the 11-year old, who is going through such a difficult time with her parents divorcing. Truly, even in an amicable divorce, everyone (especially the children) gets hurt.
So kudos to you for your compassion!
Someone else on this forum had a wonderful idea - She had 2 flower girls and wanted her third little girl relative to be a ring bearer.
So maybe consider having the 6-year old be the ring bearer and the 11 year old be the flower girl (or vice-versa)
OR - since she's 11, consider asking her to be a jr bridesmaid and carry your bible, the eternity candle, or take charge of the bouquet during the ceremony (in which case she would wear a corsage instead of carry a bouquet.)
Or she could read a passage from scripture
Or read a poem, short story etc.
Or sing/play a song
No, she doesn't have to be escorted down the aisle by a little boy. She can walk solo.
Yes, it's OK to have a different number of bridesmaids and groomsmen.
But the nice thing is, that instead of being a temper-tantrum-throwing bridezilla and being offended at a little girl's daring to ask to be in your wedding, you're showing compassion and concern.
You're a good person, Darling. I wish you all the happiness.
Reply:I would include her as a junior bridesmaid
Reply:have her throw petals if she wants, otherwise, treat her like a flower girl, but give her a boquet of her own and have them walk down together. That way it doesn't throw the balance off even more. Don't stress about it, at the end of the day-if she is close to you, do what you want. If she is too old, just have her and the younger flower girl, in slightly different dresses to decipher that she is not a bridesmaid. Good luck, that is a tough one.
Reply:I agree - that was not their place to have her ask you.
That is awkward.
If you're okay with it - she chould be a flower girl. Or, maybe you could have her do something else - like be in charge of something - like passing out programs, passing out bubbles or birdseed to throw (if they still do that). Or may be reading something in the ceremony.
Or maybe be a Jr. Bridesmaid. See below - she doesn't need an escort.
All the best to you in your wedding and marriage!
Reply:She's the perfect age to sit at the guest book at the wedding reception, along with someone else.
Reply:She's a great age for junior bridesmaid. My cousin will be 11 at the time of my wedding and she is so excited to be included. She doesn't have to do much, but she gets to be a part of the party and have a place of honor with the other bridesmaids. Your 11yo cousin could walk down the aisle between the flower girl and the other bridesmaids.

Reply:She can be a flower girl if you want her to be. She would walk down the aisle paired with your other flower girl and and the Ring bearer can escort them both, should make a really cute picture.
There is also the option of making her a junior bridesmaid but she is a bit young for this role and you would then need to have a grooms man to escort her which would mean another grooms man. at her age I think the flower girl idea is the best. Just think what this will mean to her. God Bless you for considering you cousin at this extremely tough time in her life Congratulations
Reply:if you can afford to have her in the party then include her its your day and its up to you
Reply:You could have her as a mini-bride and have her walk in just in front of you...it would mean trying to find a kid's dress very similar if not exactly like yours
Reply:You should make her a Jr. Bridesmaid. I was one once and so was my cousin for my aunts wedding. We each walked down the aisle alone. It was perfect. You are right to old for flower girl.
Reply:include her, it soesn't have to be even on both sides. she can be a jr. brides maid. most places offer dresses that are similar to the bridesmaids but with straps or something to make it for a younger person. i wouldn't dress her like the 6 year old.
Reply:My first thought is that it is very rude of those around you to create such an awkward situation. An 11 year old is obvioulsy dealing with issues surrounding the break-up of her parents but using YOUR wedding as a way to ease her pain is just plain dumb.
Having vented my spleen, if you would like to find her a place in the wedding, that is a lovely and generous thought. Something simple where she can be a part of the festivities without putting her in an exposing situation.
Ask her what she would like to do.
Some children would be mortified by doing a reading in front of a bunch of people. Similarly, a candle lighting where everyone is looking at her could be difficult. It all depends on her personality.
Having her as a junior bridesmaid where all she has to to is walk up the aisle and stand at the front of the church within the 'safety' of others is another option.
Hosting the guestbook is something else she could do.
Reply:Include her as well. She likes you. Don't reject her.
Include all of them. That is the best.
Reply:She is a perfect age to be junior bridesmaid she is probably a little too old now to be a flowergirl, however in answering your question is 2 too many I am having 3!! I went to a wedding last month and they had 2 so its really up to you. Also I am only having 2 pageboys so if you don't have a partner for her i don't think it would really matter.
Good luck and hope you sort this matter out to make everyone happy.
Reply:Well, you could do like I did. I made girls around that age Jr bridesmaids. I am putting them in little black dresses; the bridesmaids are wearing a bright pink color (pink and black are my colors). She could wear either the same color as the bridemaids or your other color. She doesn't necassarily have to have a boy to walk with. She can walk alone and either sit down or stand up there next to the bridesmaids. Really, it works!
Reply:My 10 year old niece is going to be a Jr. bridesmaid in my wedding. I thought she was too old for a flower girl. You do not have to have the same number of people in the wedding on your side and the groom's side. I have been to many weddings were the groom and groomsmen are already standing at and by the altar and the bridesmaids walk down separately, one by one. Once the 11yr old walks down the aisle she can take a seat in the front row...if you are worried about symmetry. Hope this helps!
Reply:That sucks that your parents and sister put you in that position. And it sucks that her parents are getting a divorce. And it sucks that the six year old is your SECOND cousin.
Is there anyway you could have her be a third bridesmaid? Or maybe she could carry your train down the aisle. (I really like that idea actually.)
Not to be mean, but 11 does seem a little old to me for someone to be a flower girl, especially when you have another option. I think you should try to include her in some other way and stick with your original flower girl plans.

Hey! Check this out:
Candle Lighters
"In some Christian ceremonies, pre-teens aged nine to 12 light candles at the altar just before the mother of the bride (see below) is seated. Candle lighters may dress like the wedding party or not. Your choice."
AND
Junior Bridesmaid/Groomsmen/Ushers
"These are young members of the wedding party (aged 9-16). They'll attend all major functions (excluding X-rated ones) and fulfill the same responsibilities as senior squad members. Lasses can wear less-sexy versions of the bridesmaid dresses (if the dresses are risque); lads may don a tux like the big guys."

Reply:Junior Bridesmaid would be a perfect position for her. She wouldn't have to have a male counterpart. You can also put her in a "supervisory" position over the flower girl and ring bearer.
At the recessional, perhaps she can walk with the flower girl and ring bearer and kinda watch out over them.
Put her in a dress that's a junior version of the bridesmaids dresses - not a flower girl type dress. It will make her feel grown up and important.
Reply:For the boys - - they can be ushers and show people to their seats for the service/ceremony.
the 11 year old could be a flower girl or Jr. Bridesmaid - whichever you like.
The numbers do not have to balance.
Reply:Okay. This is simple. Eleven is a bit old for flower girl so why not make her a Junior Bridesmaid? Simple and problem solved. Since she wants to participate, this is a way for her to be in it. Don't worry about if it is evenly matched - nobody does that anymore, anyway.
Reply:Just have her be a Junior Bridesmaid. Eleven is the perfect age for a Junior Bridesmaid, and you don't HAVE to ask another boy just to make it even. She can walk down the aisle along in front of the flower girl. She would have a smaller version of the bridesmaids bouquet.
Reply:I had five flower girls in my wedding, it was gorgeous. You can also just make her a jr. bridesmaid, find her a special dress and a bouquet, she might like that because it'll be something unique for her.
Reply:Im getting married in July and I have a 12 year old sister, her first words to me was she wanted to be the flower girl. Problem there because I want my 6 year old little girl to be my flower girl. I suggested to her that she could be a junior bridesmaid and she was really excited about that idea, she thinks it's so much more important than a flowergirl. You could try that and maybe try to find a junior groomsmen to walk down or have her walk up the aisle alone....which if you do that she may think then it's really special because all eyes would be on her during that walk :) Just a suggestion!
Reply:there's nothing wrong with two flower girls its your wedding do what you want. 11 isnt to old, perhaps she could throw petals b4 you walk down the isle. so what if you dont have another page boy.
Reply:she can always be a JR bridesmaid. you can tell her this is a very special job, she can walk with the flower girl.
Reply:My 9 year old sister is going to be my junior bridesmaid. So she can be in the wedding but doesn't have to have "bridesmaid" things to do. She asked to not be a flower girl cuz she feels to grown up to be one. LOL.
Reply:She can either be a second flower girl, it's actually pretty common to have two doing the same duty. Maybe if you have two wedding colors one can throw petals of one color and the other can do the other color. Or she could be a Jr. Bridesmaid, you do not have to have an escort for her so you don't need to worry about finding another page boy.
Reply:A good job for the 11y/o would be to stand at the guest book while people sign it. If you are having ceremony programs, she could pass them out while people sign the guest book as well. At the reception she can pass out cake after you and your new husband cut it. Then she feels involved and you don't really have to even out the numbers and add another boy. If she wants to dance with the wedding party at the reception when everyone is announced, maybe you can just find another boy for her to dance with for that time.

This article by The Knot has even more ideas:
http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?O...

Can I use my british debit card to buy something from an american website?
I want to buy flowers for relatives who live in the States, but interflora is so expensive. I have found some local florists, but will my british debit card work?
Can I use my british debit card to buy something from an american website?
If your card has a visa or mastercard logo on then i don't see why you can't.
Reply:Possibly. If it has a Visa or MasterCard symbol on it. The maestro card may also work like a MasterCard on the web in the US.
The only problem is if you card does not have address verification it could be denied. Just try the card and see.
Reply:yes it will
Reply:try it,you have a 50/50 chance
Reply:Some US websites will accept Solo/Maestro but not many. When you reach the checkout, you see the Payment Method option with a list of cards that they accept. If Solo/Maestro or even Visa Delta is not in the list, you are unlucky
Reply:it will probably work as long as it is visa/mc
I was able to use my US debit in London without problems. The bank translated the exchange rate automatically.

A no-flower wedding?
My future sister-in-law has asked me to help her with her snow-flake themed winter wedding.
The catch is - she doesn't like flowers. She feels they belong in their natural state and not cut and brought inside.
Any creative ways to add very simple and elegant touches without flowers. What about bouquets and boutonnières, center pieces, church decorations, etc.
Links to pictures will be especially helpful!!
A no-flower wedding?
I do like the idea that several other people have mentioned about carrying muffs instead of a bouquet. Or you could alternate with girls carrying muffs and lanterns.
Another idea would be to find large snowflakes in glass or silver, and have it hanging from a small ribbon and they carry them similar to the way a bridesmaid carries the "Posey Bouquets".
A great site for a cake topper would be:
http://www.glasscaketops.com/christmas/w...
http://www.glasscaketops.com/christmas/w...
Also, since Christmas is just over, you should be able to shop sales and find crystal/glass shaped snowflakes that are ornaments. These can be used many ways, on tress with white lights as decorations, on the tables as part of a centerpiece, on the back of chairs as part of their covers, you could also attach one of them with ribbon to the muffs that the bridesmaids would carry, to incorporate the theme further. If you want to have trees decorated but don't want the green trees, go for the white Christmas trees, she should be able to get them at great prices right now!
An alternative to flower girls throwing flowers, they could throw fake snow with silver glitter mixed in to give it sparkle down the aisle.
For centerpieces, you will want lots of glass and mirrors to give the shimmering effect similar to ice and snow. Also, I would suggest lots of white candles and white lights throughout.

Another type of placecard holder that would work well, to alternate possibly, as to not "over-do" the theme:

A centerpiece idea, but instead of the flowers, use clear glass rocks mixed with silver rocks, to give the look of ice:

A friend of mine had a winter wedding and she had a wrapped cookie in the shape of a snowflake at each seat for their favors. The cookies were a very light blue with sugar crystals sprinkled on top and silver bb shaped candies, it was pretty!

Whatever she does, please remind her not to overstate the obvious. Don't have every inch of the event covered with snowflakes. Use the theme of winter to decorate and add in snowflakes as an accent for oyur theme. By this I mean, try to use the white, silver, mirrors and glass to portray the winter theme and add in snowflakes for the final touch. On a centerpiece you don't want to over do the theme, one snowflake item is plenty, everything doesn't need to be over the top.
Reply:I don't have flowers at my wedding, I'm doing green apples. Here's my centerpiece:

My boutonneires are made with little apples and the flower girl has little apples in her basket and there is a apple on top of my cake.
I know green apples might not match snowflakes but you can use fruits and vegetables instead like I did that will match whatever colors she wants to go with. I
Red: Apple
Green: Limes, Pears, Green Apple
Yellow: Lemons
Orange: Oranges
Purple: Grapes
You can use fruit at the church too, think of it like fruit basket wreaths.
Reply:What about mini ice sculptures, they are not as expensive as you may think
Reply:There are discount dealer that have fake flower that are very pretty that are open to the public, or try Joann or Micheals. You can also used fabic to make flowers and add crystals and sequins.
Reply:A snow flake wedding................hmmmmmm
Insted of the girls carrying flowers they could get fur muffs and have ther hands in them as they wak down the chuch.
Candles work great for center pieces in a case like this.
You could make snowflake place cards
Walmart and craft stores sell clear glass stones that reflect light and shine when around candles.
Right now you could pick up some sheer snow flake fabric on sale and have squares made to tie the table linens into the wedding theme
good luck
I make wedding cakes..... Look at wilton.com for some ideas.
Reply:Well, the bridal party doesn't have to carry anything down the aisle. But what about fake flowers?
Reply:wow that is the first person I have heard of that does not like flowers. good luck!!! bride and groom snowmen, miniature ice sculptures, large snowglobes, While candles are used by many brides with many different themes, they can add a special warm glow to a winter wedding. Add fake snow around any centerpiece for an additional winter touch.Carry a muff or a single white candle with gold and silver ribbon tied around the middle.
instead of a bouquet and/or have your bridesmaids carry candles,Floating candles in cut glass bowls, with shiny glass beads in the bottom. For added effect, place your centerpieces on a mirror.
- Use shimmering fabric over the white table clothes and scatter a little artificial frost
Reply:You can decorate with alot of lights (christmas ones) the icycle ones that hang, also with alot of pearl garlands, I am an event planner so I know how to substitue alot, also a lot of irridescent glitter to give it that winter wonderland theme, lots of different size white candles with clear marbles, ice blue would be a great accent color along with white %26amp; silver

Reply:I understand her point about not wanting to take the flowers from nature so why doesnt she try artificial flowers instead? Artificial flowers, if you buy the right ones, look very real when you arrange them in bouquets. Also, with artificial flowers you can save your bouquets forever after the wedding so you'll always have the memory. I was a bridesmaid in my aunt's wedding in 2005 and my bouquet of artificial flowers is proudly hung on my wall since that day....Good luck, hope I helped....!
Reply:I notice you have had a lot of people tell you this already but silk flowers are a good way to go. you could also you tissue paper to make bouquets. You could also use wodden flowers though they are a bit pricey. They look very natural and smell natural too(becuase they put oils on them). Also if you get online and go to orientaltrading.com they have rose candels. They are longstem roses (white or red) that are actually candles. the wick comes out of the center of the candle very cute! I hope you find what you are looking for. Good Luck
Reply:For decorations, she should trade the flowers for icicles! That would be so beautiful! Also, used lots and lots of white Christmas lights! For the entire wedding party, use silk flowers instead of real ones. Nobody will notice the difference it they're new! Have an ice sculpture made into their initials for a reception centerpiece.

Reply:what about fake flowers? does she have anything against those?
Reply:Sometimed people make bead flower bouts and bouquets out of beads and wire. You might also be able to use quilled paper to make some flowery bouts.
The bride can carry something other than a bouquet, like a bible or rosary or prayer book.
Centerpieces can be replaced by anything-- framed poetry, bowls of fruit, candles, vases of candy...
Reply:Actually after flowers fully bloom it is better for the rest of the buds to cut them off. (As the fully bloomed flower dies it uses a lot of the nutrients of the plant). If you have to cut them off any way, why not enjoy their beauty?
But if she insists on no flowers...I have heard that tree twigs covered in sparkles %26amp; glitter are also nice. But I guess that might be the same concept as flowers.
Sorry I couldnt be more help...thats the best I got

Reply:Lace and ribbons are going to be your best friend.
Hankies are popular in bouquets, and you can find many doilies and such to gather and make into flower like shapes.
A simple way to make a silk rose is to take a piece of satin ribbon and stitch a running stitch down one edge, gather to form into a flower-ish form. (best to use WIDE ribbon.)
Reply:I am going to be using a lot of crystal and silver in my wedding next spring. But I do admit flowers are nice. Try silk. They can be nice if you find decent ones.

The only thing I can think of is, greenery without flowers. There is still green in the winter. I cant think of anything else. First time ever hearing of a winter flower-free wedding! (smile)
Reply:Some options are silk or acrylic flowers, ribbons, decorative pillow, candles, etc. You could make large snowflakes and use for bouquets, small snowflake pins for boutonnieres. Check with the church on decorations...my church does not allow decorations beyond what is already there...if they do, then maybe donate plants or tabletop evergreens. As for centerpieces...what about a beautiful clear blue bowl filled with snowflake decorated glass balls or ornaments (without the hooks).
Reply:Silk flowers and plants can be useful and inexpensive.

Reply:What about pot plants, does she have objections to them. You could find a minature white rose in a pot and use them as centrepieces for the tables.
As for bouquets, why not carry candles? (You'd have to work out how to do this without wax dripping and so it didn't look like a weird procession - maybe carry tealights and place them around the alter before the bride comes down the aisle. (What she carries instead of flowers, no ideas...)
Good luck and congrats to her and her other half too!
Reply:an option to replace bouquets would be to use opened fans %26amp; ribbons- these could also be used for table pieces
LOTS of other great ideas also
church decorations could be Tulle ( stiffened net) bows tied to the pews
Reply:one option to mention is silk flowers of course.
I also have a friend who just doesn't like flowers much - her bridesmaids carried lanterns with candles inside and the church was decorated with tulle and candles. The reception area was decorated with candles, and had tulle, lights and paper snowflakes on the ceiling.
For the guys - choose a suit style instead of a tux style, with a triangle hankerchief in the side pocket instead of flowers .
For centerpeices, go with candles instead of flowers.
The catch is - she doesn't like flowers. She feels they belong in their natural state and not cut and brought inside.

We planted pumpkins for the first time. Lots of people keep telling us that we need to pinch off the flowers?
we live in the state of WI. We started them from seeds in drit. we planted them in the ground 2 1/2 to 3 weeks ago. We don't have any sing of flowers yet but just want to know what to do when they come. I really hope they grow if not we will have to go to the pumpkin farm.
Thanks for all youre help.
We planted pumpkins for the first time. Lots of people keep telling us that we need to pinch off the flowers?
By pinching off SOME of the soon to appear flowers, the remaining ones recieve more nutrients, thus provideing larger pumpkins. If you don't care if you have a few large pumpkins, just leave the flowers on. You'll have a bunch of normal sized pumpkins.
Reply:The fewer blooms the plant has to feed, the larger the pumpkins.. I have a friend who has consistently grown pumpkins in the 300-350 lb. range. He only allows 2-3 blooms on his plants at a growth time. Really depends on how big you want the friut to be.
Reply:If you pinch off ALL the flowers you won't have any pumpkins, since that's where they form. However, it is true that if you thin them out, the ones you leave will have a better chance to be larger/healthier. Champion growers (for largest pumpkin) leave only one per vine.
Reply:It is true about the number of flowers per plant, but keep in mind the pumpkin does both male and female flowers. You can tell the female by looking at it, at the bottom of the flower where it joins the stem will be a bulb type structure where as the male does not have that. If you pinch pinch males first after they are on awhile since you need them to pollinate the female flowers. From there you can pinch back them and a few of the females as well if you are shooting for really big pumpkins, the less flowers the bigger the pumpkin. I hope this helps out.

Web sites offering Same day delivery of a birthday gift of ANY TYPE?
Or suggestions of getting a gift to someone in another state besides 1-800-flowers. Actually not flowers. and has to be under $50 bucks total!
Web sites offering Same day delivery of a birthday gift of ANY TYPE?
Amazon will send an email notifying the recipient that they have been given a gift certificate.
Reply:Amazon is great! walmart/asda all so do do same day delivery, you should check it out, its great!
Reply:I would try to contact a store in their area and see if they deliver.
You could also call a florist or FTD and see if they would be willing to pick something up to have delivered. They are going to up-charge you like crazy if they do it, but it might be worth it.
You can also send cookie bouquets or a gift basket.
Hope this helped...Good Luck!
Just thought of something else...what about internet gift certificates. I think you can get them from just about any online store, and I seem to remember paypal even has something like that. That way you could use the whole $50 towards a certificate instead of paying all the delivery charges you're going to have to pay by sending a gift. Just a thought.

How can I have a romantic bedroom without being too girly?
I'd like to have a relaxing sort of semi-romantic atmosphere in my bedroom, but I don't want it to be to girly to the point where my fiance won't feel like it's his bedroom too.
What color(s) should I paint it? Do guys mind candles, flowers, or a canopy over the bed? If you're a guy, would you still feel comfortable? Do you even care?
He's moving here from another state, so everything feels strange for him, I don't want to alienate him in our own place (even though technically it's mine and I pay for everything until he finds a job here).
How can I have a romantic bedroom without being too girly?
paint it a dusty tan, candles, a few flowers, and yes, a canopy, that is a great bed room, things have changed over the years, and we dont mind haveing sweet, nice things in the bed room, i like them, and i'm single now for 3 yrs, was married for 10,
Reply:A romantic bedroom is girly.
Reply:Maybe your best plan would be to save it until he gets there and go shoping with him.
However, a word of advice is to have a plan of your own, too. What colors can you live with, what colors do you hate.
You can research room styles on HGTV.com and decide which styles you can live with and which you can't stand.
If you can steer your boyfriend to a compromise because you know your own mind, you will find a plan alot sooner. And remember to give yourself a break, a new living arrangement will a stressor for you too, especially as you both deal with the whole job hunting thing. Small changes might be best for awhile, certainly pamper yourself and him with flowers and candles but wait and discuss that canopy!

As a new gardener, I planted a variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees, and have no idea how or if to prune. WA?
I live in Washington State and have never done anything outside but mow the grass. I bought a new home and put half my back yard into flowers and shrubs and trees, now I have no idea how to maintain it. Do I cut low-growing and medium height flowers back, do I need to trim flowering shrubs and other shrubs, etc. and my biggest question of all -- if so, WHEN do I do it?
As a new gardener, I planted a variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees, and have no idea how or if to prune. WA?
Go back to the nursery where things were purchased. They should give you some help. Also, while you're there, get a copy of the Sunset Western Garden book.
Reply:I live in NH. I know some things about when to cut back. I cut all my perenial flowers back after the first frost. ornamental grasses you cut back the begining of spring. Roses also. I don't believe you cut back shrubs you just prune in the spring.

How do you feel when you are leaving home for some time?
My husband and I are leaving for a week or so to visit our family and friends in another state. I was very excited this past week knowing we were going, but now I am finding that I am missing home already. I am going to miss seeing some of my flowers open up into their beatutiful splendor, I see things that should be put away or cleaned that I've neglected to do this month. Why is all this so important today now that we are ready to leave? LOL
So again, I ask, How do you feel when you are leaving home for some time? I'll award 10 point answers upon our return. Cya Later!
How do you feel when you are leaving home for some time?
Boy I can relate! I am a teacher and have chunks of time off so I have gotten used to being happy doing things at home. I just returned from a road trip to Vermont and I got very anxious the day before (sort of the way you described) and a little bit the first night. I was also visiting family and had to go (my baby sister is being re-deployed to Iraq next week :-( so it was bittersweet). I have cats as well and worried about them. But then the second day I felt more adjusted and had a great time. I think, to answer your question, a little part of us wants to find a reason we can't go, so we see the little things we don't mind letting go on a daily basis as we about to embark on a few days away. And, who wants to come home to clutter? I always clean the bathroom and prepare the bedroom so it is ready for "crashing" when I get back.
Anyway, have a safe and fun trip. You will settle in and enjoy your visit once you get there and the road trip itself can be fun, too! (mine was rainy but hopefully you will have excellent weather!)
Reply:I'm sure everyone feels that way when leaving home for a time, even if you don't think you will, you will. It's the feeling of being amongst things and people you know that makes you second guess leaving. But it gets better after you leave, so it's no problem.
Reply:hi ya. I know the feeling so well. i am leaving for a 15 day trip to europe in 2 days. About a week ago i was dreading the trip I didn't want to go and I wished i could call it all off. I think it is just nerves but don't worry, live in the moment!!!! I hope you do enjoy the trip though!

Reply:Excitement, exhilaration, anxiety - usually all at once!
Reply:I go through that all the time. I'm leaving tomorrow for a week and a half, and I see so much that needs to be done before I leave. Rather than focus on things at your home, think about how much fun you're going to have while away...and it's a break for you from housework. It's time for you to relax. Think about that every time you start thinking about home.
Reply:From experience, at first i was excited about going way, then i start to get sad that i am going to miss everything at home. But once I left i was all excited again and could'nt wait. Also a week before i had to come back home i was very emotional because i didnt want to go back home.

Does Meyer-Sutton have any approved variances for the Preserve section of Monarch Village in Stockbridge, Ga?
I have a drain easement behind my property and Meyer-Sutton (builders) state they are not allow to remove the vegetation because of the ordinances, however, half of my yard is sodded but not the half they say there's an ordinance against. They have left a mound of dirt (left my the construction workers) on my property and I believe that they just refuse to remove the vegatation. Also they has filled the flower bed in the front of my house with sand and claims that its best for plants to grow in. But until I removed the sand %26amp; put soil in everything they planted died within a month or so. My understanding is that Bermuda grass works well with sand but not plants. They claims that their not responsible for landscaping and it's my responsibility to maintain the landscape. How can I maintain something that has not been properly started and impossible to maintain? If anyone has any answer to the buffer question or the planting question please respond.

What kind of flowers should I get?
A friend of mine has just lost her mother. She lives out of state and I wanted to have some flowers delivered to her. I've read somewhere that Lilies were a good "sympathy flower," does anyone have any other suggestions? Thank you!
What kind of flowers should I get?
Lilies and roses are common funeral flowers. Don't necessarily limit yourself to those though, other cheery flowers may also be nice for your friend. Roses, though they are my personal favorite, are a bit pricey, so lillies are probably a good bet.
Reply:Gerber Daisies - not a funeral flower, but a cheery variety that come in different colors and lasts more than few days
Reply:Start here maybe you can find something nice.
Reply:Lillies are good and common. So are carnations. I would just go to a site like 1800flowers.com and find something nice in the price range I was looking for. Plants or food baskets are good, too.

There's another alternative you might want to consider. GardenWeb provides a place where gardeners can get together and swap plants (through the mail). My gardens are so much richer for trading with others. All you pay is postage for shipping out plants that others want in exchange for plants that you want.
Reply:Go someplace like ftd.com that has a network of local shops. You can pick out and arrangement and buy it from a flower shop in the town you want it to be delivered to. You can find arrangements that aren't that expensive, though it make take some digging.

What is this photography company called?
Once in a mall out of state, I seen a photography studio that caught my eye. They have backgrounds that look like lit stencils on different colored backgrounds. The backgrounds have things like glowing hearts, flowers and other patterns. I remember that they were pretty inexpensive but I just cant remember the name.

A good place to order a Bday cake to be sent to my parents?
My parents live in another state. I'd like to send them a Birthday cake. I see several places that ship cakes (the same places that ship flowers) Any suggestions of a place to order from?
A good place to order a Bday cake to be sent to my parents?
It's not cake but how about a Cookies by Design. (www.cookiesbydesign.com) or Cookie Bouquets.com or cookies in bloom.com.
Much easier to ship and still very festive.
Reply:Call their local supermarket.
Reply:Depends on where they live. In the Baltimore area definitely go for Charm City Cakes!
They have their own show on the Food Network- Ace of Cakes.
Their cakes are top notch but run about $500 per cake.
They will deliver but that is extra.
If your willing to spend that much, you will not regret it.
They have 40 flavors of cakes.

Do terra cotta pots freeze & crack if left outside in the winter?
I live in the northeastern United States, where the weather can drop to about zero degrees Farenheit. I plan on placing terra cotta pots in a flower bed in our backyard where the soil is particularly rocky. (The pots will be mostly in the ground with the top of the pots at the surface level.) So, knowing this, will the pots hold up year after year if kept outside all year long? Thanks in advance!
Do terra cotta pots freeze %26amp; crack if left outside in the winter?
We are in zone 4 and it can get to 30 below zero but we like the look of terra cotta pots in the garden. We simply bring them in for the winter.
If you like the look of terra cotta there are a number of plastic pots that look so much like terra cotta that you would have to pick them up to tell the difference.
As for plants we keep a large number of perennials in gallon sized plastic pots and they winter over perfectly well and we keep our bonsai trees buried in plastic pots for the winter and re-pot them in terra cotta for the summer.
All terra cotta is not created equal. We make terra cotta bird feeders and houses and they have never broken and some of them are more than 10 years old. The secrete is a drain hole in the bottom. Plus they are fired a bit higher than most terra cotta to make them less porous.
Good luck.
Reply:I have found that it is hit and miss and they can crack at freezing or below. Sometimes they crack and sometimes they don't. I think it has to do with the temperature at which they are fired. I think you would have to protect them when a hard frosy was due or simply go for imitation plastic terra cotta. I know it is not the same but you can get good pots that look the part. Standard sized terra otta pots are really quite cheap anyway (well they are over here in the UK) so why not give it a go and see how they do for a year.
Reply:It depends on whether the terracotta clay mixture had a flexible additive at manufacture. Most that will tolerate frost are marked as such. If not, then you can assume that they will crack when water freezes. However, if you sink them under insulation (i.e. weed membrane and a good organic top mulch) they may be OK and besides, even if they crack, (providing you don't plan on lifting them) they will still form a root barrier and will remain in place year after year as you have planned. Even if cracked they will continue to contain the good planting soil /environment if left undisturbed. Good luck :-)
Reply:Yeah, terra cotts pots will crack, break or even shatter into lots of little bits. I think you can buy pots that are frost resistant. If temperatures are 0 Fahrenheit (-17 C) I doubt if even they would last long though, even if they were to be mostly submerged.
Reply:yes they sometimes do, you can get frost freeones which here - hope this helps, try searching on frost resistant terra cotta on Google and there is a variety of online shops selling them. http://www.topiarygardens.co.uk/Terracot...
Reply:Chances are pretty good the pots will crack. Terra cotta is not waterproof, so the water will freeze, expand and crack your pots.
Reply:They will crack if left in an upright state. I turn mine upside down because I dont have the room to store them. They have made it through the last three winters. I am in zone 6.
Reply:I dump the soil in mine and store them under a tarp along with a lot of my other yard decor.

Reply:yes
What do you think of a tattoo on the lower back of a guy?
Ok, firstly let me just state that this tattoo in no way resembles one of those 'tramp stamps' girls get with a tribal design and flowers etc... Its a banner with the edges slightyly curving upwards (away from the ***) and text inside. Now 1 thing id like to say...i think the lower back on a guy is a completely different spot than the lower back of a girl. i plsn to get it not just above my crack but on my lower back.
any comments? just curios?
What do you think of a tattoo on the lower back of a guy?
I think its fine, your body your tattoo. Bah to what other people think, tattoos still have quite the social stigma so either way you're gonna get nasty comments from some people.
I've seen a couple nice tattoos on the lower area of a guys back. I think your idea is lovely and hopefully you will be very happy with it after you have it done.
Reply:No... I don't think it's a good idea!

Why students are coming to school alongwith books and bullets?
In USA. even in India school students killed their classmates. Why the flowers are running after violence? The state %26amp; society, even we, the guardian can't avoid our background role. Wher we will go?
Why students are coming to school alongwith books and bullets?
What we see today is the reflection of the impact of violence in the media gripping the young mind ! The freedom to hold weapons by people adds the rest! Here in India, people cannot afford to have a gun so easily and if at all we give a gun to each of them, no doubt just in a day a million would be killed here!
It's the duty of the government to bring and maintain the peace for all the communities to live in harmony and amity. They need to have the violence eliminated in the media plus curbing the arms to everyone and to also bring down the wide disparity in income and livelihood among people!

i think that its ouor fault the fact that we allow our childrens to have guns my children have lost their guns already i wouldnt let them have it so they tried hiding it from me but i found it and took it and had them ruined so they can never be used again!

Strange flower, pics attached?
Posted earlier about a weird flower... The flower is about three inches across, and three inches from front to back. The area where it is growing is very shady in the morning but receives full afternoon sun after about two o'clock. The soil where it is is probably not well-drained, as it is in between my cement driveway and my cement porch. The stalk that this flower grew on is about twelve inches tall.

Can anyone identify this flower? It's in Southeastern United States.

It's a columbine!
Lovely one, too. very hardy, they reseed and spread like wildfire.
Reply:this is a columbine very hardy even here in Montana a zone 4(Park county by yellowstone national park) these are wonderful spring blooming plants they do self seed very freely but they come in such a wonderful variety of colors plus there are single bloomers and double bloomers and I do not think they are fussy about where they are planted-great perennial flower !
Reply:Here's your columbine. There are numerous colours and varieties.

Reply:I would guess that it's a type of lily, but I don't know. It's really pretty, though! Did it come up from a bulb?

Pesticides for peach trees - what kind to use and how?
Hello - I live in central New Mexico and have a very healthy young peach tree. The tree went crazy last year, it had lots of flowers and thick healthy leaves. I'm planning on pruning it this weekend and I've done lots of research on the best way to get that done. But now I'm wondering about dormant spraying of pesticides. I know that the peach borer is a huge peach tree killer and we do have it in this state. Can anyone recommend a good preventative pesticide and where to get it?

What is a good gift to send to an elderly couple in a nursing home?
I always send my great aunt and great uncle, in their 90's, flowers for every holiday (I live 2 states away from them). I'd love to send them something besides flowers but I'm not sure what is appropriate.

I agree with the pictures. Be sure to put labels on the back typed in big font who everyone is (and maybe is descended from) and where the picture is taken. Size 4 x 6 pictures at least and maybe include a magnifying glass although they probably already have one. Or a box like an old lidded box that's hinged to hold them and future pictures.
You are a very thoughtful person to be sending them presents!! They are lucky people!
Reply:hand lotion, stamps and note cards with maybe a nice pen.
Maybe a throw or blanket or house shoes. Put their name in them would be nice also.
They probably like the flowers, too.
Reply:Pictures. My grandmother is 92 and she loves to look at pictures of her loved ones.
Reply:Lap blankets
Reply:If you or any other relative has pictures of the two of them from years ago, you could do a picture album of them when they were first together, and put them into chronological order where they can see themselves from year to year to present time. I did this for my mother and father in law and they were so thrilled. They don't need clothing, jewelry, gadgets, electronic devices, they have their memories that are precious to them.
Reply:This may be going way out on a limb, but is there any way you could visit them? Would mean the world to them. I recognize that going somewhere "2 states away" is a considerable task, but you'd earn your berth in heaven if you did. It wouldn't have to be this Christmas, because everybody is so busy, but you could write them a letter and say, Dear Aunt and Uncle, We plan to visit you at Easter (or in the summer) or whenever you could. It would give them something to look forward to and believe me, you will never, ever regret it.
Reply:how about some vhs tapes of movies they would like or an audio book for them to listen to together or a small photo album of different family members or one of the photo frames w/ a picture ,the one were u can record a message on. merry christmas and good luck
Reply:How about a nicely framed picture of you and your family older people like that type of stuff
Reply:Something they love/crave to eat. Food in such places are so boring. You will certainly light up their lives with their favourite food or food they seldom get to eat.
Reply:If you were stuck in a nursing home for the rest of your life with your husband, what would you want??? How about a bottle of brandy, some lube and a copy of Kama Sutra? Old people do it too you know! At least let them have the time of their life!!!
Reply:a gift basket with lots of things in it that they might enjoy or use

Do Larkspur or Delphim Flowers do well in Los Angeles?
I bought seeds for these flowers.. They both state zones 3-8. I am in zone 10.. Does anyone grow these flowers in Southern California? How well do they do?
Do Larkspur or Delphim Flowers do well in Los Angeles?
it should not be bad to grow them but because of the heat of the sun and weather you will need to plant them in a partly shaded area (however the sun does need to be on them at some point thru the day, just not all day.
also you need to have a very ventilated soil and you need to water them constantly or they will dry up and die.
Reply:Hello -
Ive grown Delphinium for a few years; and have seen Larkspur often here in Los Angeles. I am also in Zone 10 (Santa Monica/Bev Hills area). You do have some challenges - mostly being heat and the dryness. But, I agree with the other poster - if you can keep the plants on a cooler side of a building or in very partial shade, then the plants will do better. Just make sure they never dry out - yet, keep from ever becoming waterlogged. Watch out for the excessive slugs/snails around here. And, keep the flowers cut off once they are done blooming.
Chris
Reply:I thought everything grew in Southern Cal!! It might just be too hot in your area, but you can 'micro-climatize' little areas in your yard. If you have a lot of stuff growing already and shady spots that would mimick cooler temperature zones you might be able to grow them. Call a nursery in your town and ask them what you need to do to grow them.
