How come these crosses and sometimes flowers are in many states? They are on the side of the road? Sometimes they have writing but I can never read it.
Lots of them are in the Southwest.
Why do people place a cross and flowers on the side of the highway?
They are a sign of love and grief for those that died at that spot, whether it be a car accident or even a shooting. It is to memorialize and honor the person who died, somewhat like sending flowers at a funeral.
Remember seeing all the flowers, crosses, balloons, cards, etc., at the Virginia Tech shooting? Grieving hearts connect with each other like no other.
Reply:I always thought they were for people who died in car accidents at or near that location
Reply:they put it there because someone they know (family/friend) died in that area
