Who can explain why flowers cost a furtune in the United States?

For the amount of money I have to spend here on a Bouquet of simple Tulips - I can decorate every house on a street with Tulips in Europe. I have always wondered why there are so few flowers and plants in american Houses - but I guess I understand now. I just don't know why they cost so much?

The same reason gasoline costs so much here. We'll pay for them. Tulips are imported here form europe too.
Reply:They don't cost much at all if you go to your local variety store.
