Help! Our Dog Wont Quit Tearing up the Yard!?

We adopted a 5 month old jack russell terrior/mix a month ago. He's really smart and was house broken within a day or two. He has slept through the night in a crate since day one. I understand that he is teething so he wants to chew on everything. Including the wood trim on the house, the plants in the yard, furniture in the house and on and on. Along with chewing on everything he has completely destroyed our yard. Runs through the beds, gets muddy and then goes into this hyper state of flying around the yard at mach one. Tearing through the flower beds ripping it up. Then he rests in the beds. Lays all over the plants, chews on them.

Help! How can I keep him out of the flower beds? Any suggestions? We've tried several pet shop remedies that do not work.

Help! Our Dog Wont Quit Tearing up the Yard!?
Your pup is BORED and or LONELY. Bored and lonesome dogs will become VERY DESTRUCTIVE. He need lots of human attention, formal dog school training and something to do with his energy.

Find a dog school with classes for terriers. There's a trainer here in the Seattle area who specializes in terriers.

Try agility course training. Energetic terriers really enjoy the agility stuff.

He needs human attention and training NOW!
Reply:Invisble fence system. Ebay has some for a good price.
Reply:perhaps spraying ammonia around the perimeter of the bed will help to keep him out. you may also want to make a play yard especially for him. you can dig out a small area and put sand in the place of the dirt. bury a few chew bones and allow him to dig them up. soon he will get the idea that this is his play yard.

i would suggest you teach him to fetch and play this game for an extended period. use a tennis ball and/or a frisbee. in others words...give him lots of exercise and get him really tired!

hope this helps
Reply:Forget chemicals. A dog with anxiety like that needs training.

AP channel has a very good show "It's me or the dog," that teaches you to train dogs with problem behaviors. This fantastic woman uses a clicker, and treats and within days, has these beasts under control!

Read up on training with a clicker, to reward good behavior
Reply:I have a jack russell too. Listen, more jr are given to rescue people than other dogs because they are a HANDFUL!

JR will look for underground gophers, moles, squirrels, mice, anything that moves.

Everyone I know has had to have them dog trained. They will come to your house and do the job in a short period of time, it is well worth it. JR are the best dogs ever when they are trained.

Good luck.
Reply:the chewing on things is simple get him a nile bone. they cant be destroyed.

for the flower bed u can show him its bad to tear them up, put fences around them he cant get over or take him out on a leash until he`s over the habbit.

even try giving him more attention.

trust me i have 6 dogs that used to do this.
